Maintain an agreed boundary during partial fence removal

A short fence section may come out for access while the rest of the boundary remains. Owners may also rely on it for pets, privacy or separation from an adjoining property. Agree the interval between removal and reinstatement before opening the section.

Mark the exact section

Use visible posts or a labelled sketch to identify the removal extent. State whether panels, posts and footings are separate decisions. Resolve ownership and permission through the appropriate parties rather than assuming a fence line establishes either.

Assign the temporary boundary

Tell the contractor what the owner needs to keep separated and ask the responsible project party to establish the appropriate arrangement. Keep pets and household access out of the work area. Do not rely on an improvised gap closure as an unspoken part of demolition.

Plan reinstatement responsibility

Record who replaces the section and what must happen before the owner resumes its normal use. If the section is requested for reuse, have condition and removal feasibility assessed. Keep removed components labelled without promising every piece will be reusable.

Questions about this topic

Is replacing the section included automatically?
No. Removal, temporary boundary measures and reinstatement should each have an identified scope and responsible party.
