Accept an industrial unit one zone at a time

An office corner, storage bay and loading area may reach different stages of readiness. A single unit-complete checkbox can conceal those differences. Use zone acceptance for a supported strip-out scope, while keeping process equipment, residues and specialist decommissioning outside the general package unless separately assessed.

Draw the zone edges

Give each zone a name visible on the plan and on site. Define the access route serving it and the neighbouring areas that are still active. A zone should not be released if reaching it requires crossing unresolved work without an agreed arrangement.

Describe a usable handover

For each zone, list the removed elements, retained elements and remaining decisions. Record whether the following trade needs clear floor access, an exposed wall face or a particular inspection completed. These are different outcomes; an empty-looking area is not automatically ready for every trade.

Keep exceptions with the zone

Attach photographs of unfinished interfaces and name the person handling each one. Release only the agreed work, rather than treating partial acceptance as approval of hidden conditions or another contractor's work. The final unit review should reconcile all zone records so nothing disappears between separate sign-offs.

Questions about this topic

Does zone acceptance certify the building?
No. It records the agreed demolition handover. Engineering, regulatory inspections and specialist clearances remain with the responsible parties.
