Interior removals for a connected accessible-home renovation

A kitchen or bathroom adaptation can also change the route between rooms. Start with the responsible designer's proposed arrangement, including circulation, then identify the existing interiors that prevent it. Demolition does not design or certify an accessible home.

Read the rooms as a connected route

Mark the entrance, corridor, bathroom and kitchen affected by the proposal. Identify doors, fixed furniture and finish transitions that meet that route. A room-only removal list can overlook a cabinet return or threshold outside the room itself.

The designer determines dimensions, suitability and any required approvals. The demolition assessment follows those decisions; it should not infer a wider doorway or a different floor level from a general request for accessibility.

Use interior demolition for the ordinary package and structural demolition for accepted structural alterations. Plumbing, electrical changes, new construction and final checks remain assigned to the relevant parties.

Preserve the retained-room edges

In an illustrative connected project, a kitchen fitting and bathroom interior change while a neighbouring bedroom remains. The route between them also crosses a retained floor. The receiving contractor needs the exact removal edges and the intended treatment at that transition, not an assumption that the entire level will be stripped.

The bathroom threshold guide supports the local doorway discussion. Access for occupants during construction must be assessed separately by the project team; the future design does not establish a workable interim arrangement.
