Commercial fit-outs
Demolition when an office becomes retail space, or a shop becomes an office
An office and a shop can fit within similar premises while needing different room arrangements. Compare the proposed use with the rooms and fit-out already present. The responsible professionals determine use and building requirements; Siteforce assesses the ordinary interiors accepted for removal.
Compare both directions
| Conversion | Useful retained features to consider | Potentially obsolete fit-out |
|---|---|---|
| Office to showroom or shop | Staff rooms, storage and selected support areas | Enclosed offices interrupting the customer display route |
| Shop to office | Useful rear rooms and accepted finishes | Sales counters or display enclosures obstructing the workplace plan |
Retention is a design decision, not a guaranteed saving. A room may appear useful but have doors, services or surrounding finishes that conflict with the next layout.
Trace the open area through the existing fit-out
Removing an office group can reveal multiple ceiling and floor conditions. Removing a retail counter may expose a different floor build-up or connected services. The receiving contractor needs the intended condition at each former footprint, not simply a larger empty room.
Use the office strip-out service or retail strip-out service according to the actual package. Their scope descriptions remain under the existing commercial removal offer, rather than becoming a turnkey conversion service.
Assign structural and system changes separately
The design team establishes the role of walls and openings. Responsible trades prepare affected systems and install their replacements. Ordinary interior removal does not approve a change of use, redesign public access or guarantee that existing rooms can be retained.
For an illustrative office-to-showroom layout, two staff rooms remain while a group of small offices leaves. In the reverse direction, a useful rear room stays while an obsolete sales counter is removed. These examples compare physical boundaries; they are not completed Siteforce projects.
Enquire with the future-use plan
Request an assessment with both layouts, retained features and the designer or GC contact. If two premises are still being compared, use the premises comparison guide to keep unknown conditions visible before choosing the fit-out package.
