Coordinate shower enclosure removal with the replacement supplier

A new shower supplier may need the old enclosure gone before taking final measurements. The owner still needs to know what demolition includes and what the supplier expects to find. Agree the measurement stage before removing components that the supplier wanted to inspect in place.

Confirm what the supplier needs

Ask whether it needs photographs, existing dimensions or a visit before removal. Identify the enclosure, fittings and adjoining finishes separately. A replacement quotation is not a removal method or proof that the supporting surfaces can stay unchanged.

Separate enclosure and backing work

List glass, frame, tray, wall finishes and concealed layers as separate decisions. Let the contractor assess removal and any material or service concerns. Keep plumbing work with the appropriate trade and avoid treating the enclosure as a disconnected furniture item.

Set the measurement milestone

Record who confirms the space is ready for final measurement and what repairs must precede it. The demolition handover may expose a condition requiring further review. Do not book final fabrication on an assumed opening that has not yet been assessed.

Questions about this topic

Can the new enclosure be ordered from the old dimensions?
Ask the supplier. Removal and repair can change the finished opening, so the supplier should specify its measurement requirements.
